Utah is home to more than 60,000 refugees. Embark is a program that introduces wilderness skills, rock climbing, and snow sports to young women in Salt Lake and Utah County’s ever-growing refugee community. The outdoors is a space we all share, no matter where we come from. At Embark we believe that engagement with the outdoors bridges cultural gaps. Combined with confidence-building activities, Embark participants face new challenges with fortitude as they continue on their greater journey of building a life in the United States.

Embark empowers young women who have been relocated to Utah due to conflict in their country of origin to get outside. Through hiking, rock climbing, camping, and mountain skills education, Embark challenges our young women to see themselves as athletes and leaders in their communities.
