Our local (Utah) community collaboration, Project Climb, has allowed us the ability to help our underserved communities closer to home. We wanted the opportunity to help others gain access to the benefits of being in the outdoors through our love of rock climbing, and find a new appreciation for the outdoors, in turn creating environmental stewards.
This spring we started the program indoors through our partnership with Momentum Indoor Climbing and The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salt Lake. We have been fortunate enough to partner with these groups to help expand outdoor access in a healthy, safe and supportive environment. As we experienced first hand, rock climbing can have a monumental effect on one's ability to gain self confidence, develop healthy habits and connect with one's peers.
In 2019 we expanded these programs to include a local Title 1 elementary school, the Salt Lake County Youth Services, and added a new program, Embark Outdoors helping local refugee young women learn practical outdoor skills.
